The first time you drive into Columbus, you might wonder what all the fuss is about. It's not flashy like Miami. It doesn't have the tech-bro energy of the West Coast. But spend a week here, and you'll start to notice what makes this place one of the fastest-growing metros in the country: three pro sports stadiums clustered within a mile of each other downtown, a food scene that punches way above its weight, and a job market that's pulling in billion-dollar investments from Intel, Honda, and Google. Columbus doesn't shout. It just keeps building, hiring, and growing.

Columbus: A Great Sports Town with Three Pro Teams Downtown
Columbus is home to three professional sports teams: the Columbus Blue Jackets (hockey), the Columbus Clippers (baseball), and the Columbus Crew (soccer). If you're a sports fan like me, that's a huge plus. I love going to live sporting events. It's just a good time to hang out with family and friends, and the atmosphere at these games is electric.
What I love most is that all three stadiums are located within less than a mile of each other in the heart of downtown in the Arena District . So after the game, it's a perfect opportunity to grab a bite at your favorite restaurant and enjoy a few drinks with your friends. You're not driving 30 minutes out to some suburban complex. You're walking a few blocks, and you're in the middle of the action.
In addition to the pro sports, Ohio State football is very popular here in Columbus. Game days are a cultural event. The entire city shuts down. If you're not a Buckeyes fan when you move here, you will be by the end of your first season. There's something for everyone if you're a sports fan in Columbus, Ohio, and the proximity of the stadiums makes it easy to catch a game without planning your whole day around it.
An Underrated Food Scene with Healthy Options and Rooftop Bars
Columbus has a very underrated food scene. We have some of the best restaurants throughout the entire country, and I'm not exaggerating. My favorite personally is Kitchen Social . It's a local restaurant here. They serve brunch, they serve lunch, and they serve dinner. They have healthy options and they have non-healthy options, salads, burgers, pizzas, brunch food, breakfast food, mimosas. I absolutely love that place.
In addition, I love Town Hall . It's located downtown. It's the only restaurant in Columbus that is 100% non-GMO. If you're like me, I am health conscious, so I love being able to go out to eat and also eat healthy at the same time. And right above Town Hall actually is one of the coolest rooftop bars called Mandrake . It has one of the best views of the Short North and downtown Columbus and some of the best sushi.
Columbus has amazing coffee shops throughout the entire city. If you love coffee like me as well, there's plenty of coffee and tea options for you. The food scene here is diverse, locally owned, and constantly evolving. I highly recommend you reach out to me when you're in town and we can go to one of my favorite restaurants, and I can show you around town to find a restaurant that suits your likings.
All Four Seasons (Yes, That Includes Real Winters)
If you're watching this and you live on the West Coast or somewhere where it's warm year-round, this may kind of scare you. But I'm telling you right now, I've had many people say they wish they had winters because it gets too hot where they live in Miami, Florida, or wherever they live where it's super, super hot year-round. They actually enjoy that there are four seasons and they wish they had winter.
There are harsh winters here in Columbus, Ohio. We do get snow, we do get wind, we do get heavy rain. It may be a bit of a shock at first, but people seem to really like all four seasons. And you get to change your clothes. You get to wear your spring clothes, your summer clothes, your winter clothes, and your fall clothes. It's just an opportunity to express you, try on different clothes, enjoy different weather, and enjoy all Columbus, Ohio has to offer.
Fall is stunning here. The leaves change, the air gets crisp, and you can actually enjoy being outside without melting. Spring is short but beautiful. Summer is warm and humid, perfect for the outdoor festivals and concerts that happen all over the city. And winter? It's real. You'll need a good coat, a snow shovel, and a little patience. But if you've been living somewhere that's 85 degrees year-round, you might find that you actually like having seasons again.
A Thriving Economy Attracting Major Employers
This is one of my favorite things to talk about because born and raised in Columbus, the economy was not always like this. But right now in 2023, the economy is booming. We have many companies such as Intel , Honda , and Google making billion-dollar investments into the area, attracting talent and jobs throughout the entire country and bringing them here.
This is amazing because this means the growth, the housing market, the job market, the economy, everything will continue to grow, which means more wealth into the area, which means more opportunity. It's one of the fastest growing job economies throughout the entire country. I also love it because if you're an entrepreneur, we are small business friendly and entrepreneur friendly as well.
If you want to work for a major corporation, we have plenty of those. Nationwide Insurance , JPMorgan Chase , Cardinal Health all have homes and all have job sites here. So there are plenty of jobs if you're looking to come to Columbus, Ohio. The economy is very well off and going to continue to grow year after year. That's not hype. That's what I'm seeing on the ground, in the neighborhoods where these companies are building campuses and hiring thousands of people.
Affordable Housing Compared to National Markets
This is a big one because I know housing affordability across the entire country right now is very alarming. But here in Columbus, Ohio and Central Ohio, housing is still relatively affordable. Yes, prices continue to go up year after year, but if you're looking for a nice home in a good area, Columbus, Ohio is definitely the place for you.
Now, if you want to live in a nice suburb with a good school district and some land, you're going to be paying a premium. If you want to be living in the heart of downtown Columbus, expect to pay a little more as well. That's just the nature of any nice area. You're going to be paying more if you want to enjoy nicer amenities and a nicer school district. But overall, the housing is very affordable.
Compared to what I'm seeing clients pay in California, New York, or even Austin, Columbus is a bargain. You can still get a quality home without stretching your budget to the breaking point. That affordability is one of the main reasons people are relocating here, and it's one of the reasons I think Columbus will keep growing for the next decade.
Lots of Construction (Which Actually Means Growth)
There's lots of construction here in Columbus, Ohio. This is a good thing though, because this means there's a ton of growth happening. I just wanted to point this out because if you do work in Columbus, Ohio, just plan to leave a little bit early. Or if you plan to get anywhere on the weekend and you have to be there, let's say at 8 PM, do not leave at 7:30 and expect to be there on time. Leave an hour early, give yourself a little bit of room.
But all this construction is good news. This means that Columbus, Ohio and the surrounding areas are growing, and we will continue to have a healthy economy, and we continue to innovate every single year. So construction, in my opinion, is good for growth and means good growth. You'll see cranes downtown, road projects in the suburbs, and new developments going up in neighborhoods that were quiet five years ago. It's a sign that the city is investing in infrastructure and planning for the future. Just factor it into your commute.
Great Education from Elementary Schools to Universities
Columbus, Ohio is home to some of the best universities throughout the entire country, including Ohio State , Otterbein , Capital University , Columbus State , and many, many more universities. In addition, Columbus, Ohio is home to some of the top-rated high schools in Ohio and middle schools and elementary schools.
If you're looking for a great education, a higher education, or if you have a family and you're looking to start a family here in Columbus, either way we have something for everyone. Whether you're looking to get a higher education, or you're looking to raise your family in a great school district, Columbus, Ohio and the surrounding areas has something for everyone, and the education is top-notch. Verify current school ratings and boundaries with the district, but the options here are strong across the board.
Rooftop Bars and Local Breweries Throughout the City
We already talked about the amazing restaurants and the food here in Columbus, Ohio, so next on the list, we cannot forget to talk about the rooftop bars and the local breweries. I personally do not drink a ton of alcohol, but a lot of my friends love to enjoy the local craft beers here in Columbus. So if you're looking for amazing rooftop bars, looking for local craft beers and looking to get a drink downtown, Columbus, Ohio has plenty of those places.
Like I said, Standard Hall , Town Hall , Mandrake , a downtown Hilton, a hotel has a new rooftop bar that is very, very cool. It's got a lot of hype. I personally have not been there, but I've heard amazing things. You have BrewDog . There are tons of local breweries here in Columbus, Ohio. So if you like to drink alcohol and you like to try craft beers, this is the place for you.
And I forgot to mention, if you love wine, Cooper's Hawk at Easton Mall is the place to go. They have a wine tasting and they have a wine membership. So if you're a wine lover, that's definitely the place to go. The social scene here is more diverse than people expect, and the rooftop bars give you a view of the city that reminds you why so many people are moving here.
Walking and Biking Paths for an Active Outdoor Lifestyle
This is one of my favorite things to do in Columbus, Ohio when the weather is nice because I am a huge fitness fanatic. I love being active. So as much as I can be outside walking on the trails, walking in the woods, biking, running, you name it, I'm going to take advantage of it.
My favorite part downtown is the Scioto Mile . It's 26 miles of walking and biking paths, and you can see amazing views of downtown Columbus. And if you want to walk downtown, it's not that far. I highly recommend checking out the Scioto Mile. And if you're in the suburbs, I really love the Hoover Reservoir in Westerville , Ohio, and Alum Creek in Lewis Center . Those are my favorite places to go and enjoy when it's nice out. Get a run in, run some steps, get on my bike, enjoy the beautiful weather and biking trails and Mother Nature.
The outdoor lifestyle here is real. You're not just stuck in your car or your apartment. There are trails, parks, and green spaces all over the metro, and they're well-maintained and well-used. If you're someone who needs to be outside to feel sane, Columbus gives you plenty of options.
